The Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carriers are the latest and largest in service with the Royal Navy, comprising lead vessel HMS Queen Elizabeth and her sister ship HMS Prince of Wales.
Each displaces approximately 65,000 tonnes and features a unique twin-island design—the first of its kind on an aircraft carrier. The forward island serves as the bridge for navigation and command, while the aft island handles flight deck operations.
Powered by two MT30 gas turbine alternators and four diesel generators, the class uses an integrated electric propulsion system to provide a range of around 10,000 nautical miles (11,508 miles or 18,520 km) without refuelling.
HMS Queen Elizabeth is equipped to operate F-35B Lightning II aircraft and various helicopter types from the 280 m ski-jump flight deck and supports up to 1,600 personnel on full deployment.
